As the new year approaches, we want to remind you of the importance of safe driving, especially on New Year’s Eve, when there are increased incidents of drunk driving and reckless behavior on the roads.
According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, drunk driving deaths represented 28 percent of all traffic fatalities in 2019, with Christmas to New Year’s Day accounting for the largest increase in deaths.
Distracted Driver Accidents ran a study on drunk driving fatal accidents on New Year’s Eve between 2013 and 2018 and found that Mississippi, Oklahoma, South Carolina, Wyoming, and Texas were the top five states with the highest crash rates on this holiday.
If you are driving on New Year’s Eve, we encourage you to avoid distractions, drive defensively, allow extra time to reach your destination, and avoid the temptation to speed or engage in other risky behaviors such as drunk driving. Put safety first by having a designated driver or using alternative transportation options like Uber and Lyft.
We hope you have a safe and enjoyable New Year’s Eve. Please don’t hesitate to contact us if you or someone you know has been involved in a car accident.
