A car rollover on I-20 in Jackson, MS, on March 15 after 5:15 p.m. tragically resulted in one death and one injury near Highway 18.
According to Detective Tommie Brown of the Jackson Police Department (JPD), a red Cadillac SUV lost control, veered off the road, and overturned several times. As a result, both passengers were ejected during the incident.
The victims were quickly rushed to the University of Mississippi Medical Center (UMMC) for treatment. Unfortunately, Joslynn Robinson, 27, succumbed to her injuries at the hospital.
Meanwhile, authorities continue to investigate the cause of the crash and will provide more details as the investigation unfolds.
How Car Rollover Crashes Lead to Serious Injuries and Fatalities
Car rollovers are among the most dangerous accidents, often leading to severe injuries or fatalities. When a vehicle flips, the risk of ejection significantly increases, particularly if occupants aren’t wearing seat belts. Additionally, the force of the rollover can cause major damage to both the vehicle and its occupants. Many victims of rollover crashes suffer head, neck, and spinal injuries due to the violent impact. Furthermore, the unpredictability of rollovers makes them especially hazardous, as drivers and passengers may be caught off-guard by a sudden loss of control.
Some key dangers of car rollover accidents include:
- Increased risk of ejection: Occupants may be thrown from the vehicle if they’re not securely fastened with a seatbelt.
- Severe head and spinal injuries: The force of the rollover can result in traumatic brain injuries or permanent spinal damage.
- Multiple impacts: As the vehicle rolls, it may hit several objects or parts of the road, increasing the chances of injury.
- Difficulty in rescue operations: Overturned vehicles are harder for emergency responders to access, which can delay medical assistance.
- Increased risk of fire: In certain cases, overturned vehicles may catch fire, placing occupants at risk of burns or suffocation.
These risks emphasize the need for careful driving and wearing seat belts to reduce the chances of a rollover and its potentially devastating consequences.
