Tesla began rolling out an automatic, over-the-air recall and software update for nearly all its vehicles in the US: all model Y, S, 3, and X that have been produced between October 5, 2012, and December 7, 2023. The update began rolling out last Wednesday, December 13, 2023 — at no cost to Tesla owners.
This update will add additional driver monitoring to the Autopilot advanced driver-assistance program and address defects. This update comes after a two-year investigation by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration into Autopilot after its use had been involved in a large number of accidents.
A recent analysis by LendingTree found that Tesla vehicles are involved in more accidents than 29 other leading car brands. The analysis reports that Tesla drivers had 23.54 accidents per 1,000 drivers.
